The Best Way to Improve Your Tennis Movement
This video is from the USPTA SoCal 2022 Summer Conference where Martin Parkes discusses tennis movement & balance. Of course, I was chosen as a volunteer to demonstrate the posture and position that is relative to Martin’s presentation. The entire video also includes demonstrations of movement efficiency that emphasis tennis movement.
People like to imagine that tennis is a simple game where you can easily move from shot to shot. In reality, how you move and where your balance is during your shot, your recovery, and the time between your next shot is critical. You can see from some of the players that Martin brings on the court, their tennis movement is “flowing”. They have dynamic balance, a term that Martin Parkes describes gives a nice and relaxed shot – the end goal for tennis movement.
Martin Parkes has an illustrious playing career from the college to futures level. Afterwards he has worked inside both the collegiate and professional realms. From coaching in both Division I & II levels and working with top ATP players, Martin is also a professional sports psychologist working with players to improve their mindset and performance.
